Youth Orchestra of Bucks County
About YOBC
Our program, which is sponsored by Bucks County
Community College, is under the direction of Mr. Robert Loughran, a conductor
of the Princeton Regional High School Orchestra and a member of the faculties
of Westminster Choir College and BCCC. Among the orchestras that
he has conducted are the Bucks County Festival Orchestra, the Greater Princeton
Youth Orchestra, and Temple University's "Gifted Young Musician" Baroque
Orchestra. The 70 member Symphony, which performs original score
classical works at an advanced level, primarily consists of high school
age musicians. The Philharmonia is a full orchestra designed for
the younger musician and the Concertino is a string orchestra.
We also have a Wind Ensemble, under the baton of Mr. Steve Sweetsir, which consists of students in high school. A Wind Symphony completes our ensembles and this group includes younger wind players and is directed by Mrs. Colleen Sweetsir.
Successful candidates will be placed in the appropriate ensemble. Our purpose is to enrich the musical experience of talented young musicians in the Bucks County area through study of a more demanding repertoire than is generally available to our members.
Applicants should be prepared to attend weekly rehearsals, having practiced the repertoire on their own time. While not a requirement, private instrumental instruction is strongly encouraged. YOBC is an enhancement to, not a replacement for, the school orchestra. Consequently, members are requred to participate in their school music program.
